Showing support to the Supreme Court’s Mandamus to clean-up, rehabilitate, and preserve Manila Bay, Laguna Water in partnership with Region IV-A’s Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-CALABARZON), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-CALABARZON) and the Local Government of Calamba City conducted its first Mobile Lakbayan last March 19 at SM City Calamba.

Mobile Lakbayan is an environmental program of Laguna Water that aims to increase awareness of the public on the need to protect the water resources and the importance of proper used water management. It is also an avenue to effectively communicate and discuss the processes involved in delivering safe and clean water.

During the event, videos of Laguna Water, such as the Laguna Water Story and its water trail, were presented along with the audiovisual presentation of Manila Bay’s current situation.

Attendees were also introduced to Toka-Toka, Manila Water’s advocacy campaign for used water management. Toka-Toka aims to solicit cooperative volunteerism across different sectors to pledge simple acts that will help ensure safer and cleaner water systems.

Present during the event were DILG Provincial Director Marita B. Del Valle, Laguna Water’s Regulatory and External Affairs Head Real C. Magtangob, DILG Calamba City Director Lenie Bautista, and SM Calamba Mall Manager Ms. Maria Abigail Mole.

In the morning of the same day, Laguna Water also took part at the City of Calamba’s 2016 Run for Calamba Rivers. Organized by the Adopt-A-River-Association of Calamba City Inc. and City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the fun run aims to raise awareness and funds for the rehabilitation of the three major water tributaries in Laguna leading to Manila Bay — San Cristobal, San Juan, Baranca De Sipit Creek.

Before the race, Laguna Water also facilitated the runners’ Pledge for the Environment with runners signifying their commitment to take care of the environment through writing their names and placing them on the Pledge Tree.

Laguna Water is a successful public-private partnership between the Provincial Government of Laguna and Manila Water Philippine Ventures, a wholly-owned company by Manila Water Company Inc. (Manila Water), the Ayala-led water service provider in the East Zone of Metro Manila and a leader in the water industry in the Philippines, with presence in Vietnam, Myanmar and Indonesia.
